CropLife Nigeria, an international organisation, championing innovations in crop protection and plant bio-technology, is working with National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to ensure Nigeria makes at least N800 billion yearly from agro commodities.
Nigeria exported agricultural goods worth N343.4 billion in the first half of the year, an increase of 17.3 per cent from N292.8 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2021. It is, however, a rise of 61.9 per cent compared to N212.1 billion recorded in the second half of 2021. This is according to a breakdown in the foreign trade report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
President, Croplife Nigeria, David Achimugu noted that rejections of agro commodities was having impact on the volume on exports. He explained that one of the reasons for the rejection of Nigeria’s agro exports abroad was lack of understanding on safe and responsible handling of pesticides and other crop protection products in agriculture, horticulture, and food storage.
